Voodoo rituals of voodoo magic

When one thinks of voodoo rituals, the mind often wanders to Mother Africa and the image of classic voodoo dolls being pierced by pins. However, voodoo magic is a fascinating world that originated in Africa and Latin America as an ancient religion, and has since transformed into a faith with almost sixty million believers. Like Christianity, voodoo has different branches linked to various ethnic groups. The differences between Haitian voodoo and Benin's voodoo are linked to the different ethnicities of the practitioners.

Many nations have voodoo as their official religion, and there is a voodoo clergy composed of priests called oungan (also ungan or houngan) and female priestesses called mambo. Each voodoo community has its own high priests and high priestesses, similar to bishops and cardinals, called papal and mamaloa.

Voodoo rituals are held in groups under the supervision of these figures, with the help of many other participants, similar to a Christian Mass. The most intriguing aspect of voodoo is its magical lap, which consists of rituals and ceremonies involving dolls, dances, and drum sounds. Let's dive in and learn more about it.

Voodoo Magic Ritual

Like many ancient religions, voodoo has ceremonial practices related to magic. Unfortunately, the practices of black magic have overshadowed other rituals of white magic that are also an integral part of voodoo. It's worth noting that voodoo believers have immense faith in their practices.

However, voodoo rituals are not only concerned with black magic. They also address matters of the heart and can create strong and long-lasting bonds of love over time.

What are the voodoo dolls

Voodoo dolls are also known as dagid and are used for performing voodoo rituals, both for white and black magic. Dagige represents the person who is the target of the ritual. The dolls are padded with hair, nails, or pieces of clothing of the victim. Alternatively, the doll can be cooked over the photograph of the person it represents. The color of the pins and the point at which they are placed on the doll depend on the type of ritual being performed. Whether it is to harm someone or heal them or to make someone fall in love, there are many reasons why voodoo magic and voodoo dolls are used. It is not always exclusively for black magic, as it is often assumed.

The Philosophy of the voodoo

Voodoo has both negative and obscure aspects along with positive aspects. Voodoo is linked to pantheism and emphasizes the importance of respecting both nature and humanity. Many voodoo communities fight against deforestation in Africa because they believe that the forest is sacred. In voodoo, a handicap is considered a gift rather than a disgrace. Voodoo rituals are seen as a way for humans to connect with the divine. In voodoo magic, the ritual is based on trance, which can be a collective or singular experience. The morality of voodoo magic depends on the individual case, the person performing it, and the presence or absence of sacrifices. Many voodoo communities have abolished animal sacrifice and replaced it with offerings of plant origin. In voodoo, each entity has its preferences, and the priest prepares all the gifts that spirits love to receive. The cult of the dead is significant in voodoo, and people have great respect for the elderly who are a source of knowledge and wisdom. These are some of the noble aspects of voodoo magic.
